Trash
City of South Miami Solid Waste Division — residential garbage in city container. Place out no earlier than 7:00 p.m. night before and no later than 7:00 a.m. pickup day. Lid opening faces street/alley at curb/edge of swale; ≥3 ft clear of obstructions; lid closed. All garbage bagged and tied. Only household garbage in container — no trash, tree cutting, building materials, auto parts, hazardous chemicals. Days by Garbage Collection Schedule Map (city page). New container $75; second container purchase $75 + second-container service $500/year; damaged/stolen replacement no charge (stolen needs SM Police report).
Recycling
City states residents’ recycling day is every Wednesday; materials/calendar via Miami-Dade County Residential Recycling Program (interlocal). City page still links a 2025 Recycling Day calendar — for 2026 dates use Miami-Dade recycling calendars / 311 (county PDF published). Damaged recycle cart → Miami-Dade County. Acceptable: bagged household debris; bagged yard clippings; broken-down cardboard; branches/shrubs cut ≤5 ft. Domestic trash (non-yard) in containers or bundled ≤5 ft, ≤50 lb. Place in front of residence, ≤5 ft from pavement edge, ≥3 ft from mailboxes/cars/trees/poles; not on drains/meters; no shared piles. Special bulk $75/item (A/C, fridge/stove/washer/dryer with doors removed, water heaters, furniture/mattresses, etc.) — out max 24 hours before assigned day.
