Not allowed
Weekly trash bans construction debris, lumber, shingles, brick, rock, concrete, dirt, sod, sand, auto parts, appliances (use HPCC), motor oil/household hazardous waste. Bulk prohibited list above.

Trash bagged & tied in cart. Recyclables never bagged. Bulk trash that's “uncontained garbage” must be bagged; green organics per rules.

- City Public Works Solid Waste — weekly curbside or alley for single-family (day via Residential Collection Map). Secure trash, grass, animal waste in plastic bags inside container, lid closed; nothing outside container. Curbside: out by 6:00 a.m., remove by 8:00 p.m. same day; 4 ft from fixed objects; don’t block sidewalk. Alley: use nearest containers; don’t move city cans; recycle goes curbside front, not alley. - Recycling
- Weekly blue 96-gallon Tempe-logo recycling cart; loose only (never bag). Top 10: cardboard, paper, food boxes, mail, beverage/food cans, glass bottles, jars, jugs, plastic bottles/caps. Also plastic, glass, aluminum, steel, chipboard, newspapers, magazines (program page). Not: plastic bags/wraps (grocery take-back). Place in street wheels to curb or driveway by sidewalk by 6 a.m.; ≥10 ft from vehicles/fixed objects; remove by 8 p.m. Extra cart via 311.

- Every other month bulk trash + green organics (2026 schedule PDF by Area). Out by 6 a.m. Monday of scheduled week; no earlier than 10 days prior. Holidays during bulk week don't change bulk schedule. Separate trash vs green organics piles 4 ft apart; 4 ft from containers/hydrants/meters/utility boxes; ≤10 cubic yards (~small SUV). Green organics: limbs ≤4 ft / ≤19 in dia; leaves/grass in cardboard or compostable bag; cactus in cardboard; homeowner yard work only (no landscapers). Bulk OK: furniture, mattresses, bagged trash, small non-Freon appliances, washers, microwaves. Not: Freon appliances, tires, unbagged animal waste, glass/mirrors, household hazardous waste, car parts, railroad ties, dirt/rock/concrete/construction debris/carpet, etc. Special call-in pickup fee via 311; transfer station ≤1,000 lb/mo free (Sky Harbor RTS) for residents.
